We believe in the Triune God (The Holy Trinity), i.e., God the Father, God the Son, and God the Holy Spirit.
They are three distinct Persons in one divine Being or Essence.
We
believe that we are saved by faith alone. Jesus Christ died for our
past, present, and future sins. We will enter into the eternal Kingdom
just by the grace of God, not by our good deeds (Ephesians 2:8,9).
That
should not stop us from doing good deeds. Good deeds are just our way
of saying thanks to God for choosing us. God chose us; we can never
choose Him. According to Scriptures (The Bible), we humans are by
nature spiritually blind, dead, and an enemy of God. Therefore by our
own reason or strength, we cannot believe in Jesus Christ, Our Lord, or
come to Him.
Our God choose us, died for us, puts faith in our
hearts, and will one day take us to heaven to be with Him forever. He
gets 100 % credit for saving us.
LUTHERANS BELIEVE THAT....
There is only One true God. Father, Son, and Holy Spirit, one God in three persons
The
Bible is God's revelation to man: God's inerrant Word which is man's
sole guide for faith, matters of life, and truth in all things for all
time.
Man is born sinful, separated, and condemned by God because of Adam's fall into sin.
Jesus
Christ, true God and true man, saved the fallen race by His perfect
life, suffering, substitutionary death, and resurrection.
God
has forgiven the sinful world for Christ's sake, and those who believe
(have faith) in Him as their savior from sin have eternal life.
In Baptism the Holy Spirit works in sinful man, removing all his sin; a blessed Baptism meant for all people, including infants.
The
Lord's Supper forgives and strengthens the believer's faith as he
receives Christ's true body and blood, in, with, and under the bread
and wine.
Man has salvation already by faith in Christ and does
good works in loving response to God's greater first love. These works
do not add to or earn salvation or heaven.
At Christ's return
all the dead will be raised and stand before Him in judgment, the non
believers will be condemned to eternal hell and the believers ushered
into the presence of God in heaven.
Though not the only-saving
church, the Lutheran Church in its official creed teaches and confesses
what every Christian, governed by God's Word, should strictly hold to
in doctrine, practice, and life.
